Who are these Faith Based Counselors?
The Behavioral Health Project's Goal is to develop a network of faith based counselors throughout the five counties in the Diocese of St Petersburg. Faith Based Counselors are licensed mental health professionals who have chosen to be included on this listing of mental health professionals who are open to serving members of the Diocese of St. Petersburg's parishes and schools and the clients of Catholic Charities. They consist of Psychiatrists, Licensed Psychologists (Ph.D. or Psy.D.), Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHC) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). These professionals work either in public or private mental health or substance abuse treatment program or in private practice. They typically are able to work with referrals from parishes either through the parishioner's health insurance plan or on a sliding fee scale. They will work with their local parishes to offer wellness programs under the direction of the Catholic Charities Behavioral Health Project. They will continue to pursue continuing education to strengthen and expand their clinical skills through technical assistance and training programs offered through the Catholic Chariteis Behavioral Health Project. Many of these counselors also participate in the network of professionals who belong to the BayCare Parish Assistance Programs' network of mental health professionals.
